The average household size was 2.5 and the average family size was 3.04.
The population was broken up as follows: 22.7% were under the age of 18, 6.5% were between the ages of 18 and 24, 24.6% were between the ages of 25 and 44, 30.7% were between the ages of 45 and 64, and 15.7% were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42.6 years old.
In 2010, the racial makeup of Novato was as follows: 76% white residents, 21.3% Hispanic or Latino residents, 6.6% Asian residents, 2.7% black residents, .6% Native American residents, and .2% Pacific Islander residents. 9% of Novato residents identified as “other races” and 4.9% identified as two or more races.
